Microdermabrasion is a cosmetic and aesthetic, non-surgical, non-invasive procedure that abrades and removes the superficial dead cells of the epidermal layer. It feels like a scraping sensation. It is a treatment wherein inert aluminum oxide crystals are propelled at high speed through the handset of the machine onto the skin surface. The handset is gently applied to the skin surface and moved in a pattern to cover the entire area to be treated. Repeated passes may be made to increase the abrasion effect. These crystals gently abrade and loosen the surface cells. The accumulated debris comprising of dead loosened cells and residue of aluminum granules are then sucked out by a suction pump attached to the same hand-piece, and collected in a waste disposal jar.
Microdermabrasion polishes the surface of the skin. If the strokes are done in the direction of lymphatic drainage, then the skin becomes soft to feel. Microdermabrasion disrupts and dislodges the dead cells of the skin surface layer, stimulating epidermal cell division, increasing epidermal turnover time thereby causing shedding of the pigment-laden cells. This function leads to skin lightening and reduction of hyperpigmented spots and patches. The suction of Microdermabrasion improves vascular function and stimulates the cells in the dermis to produce more new collagen. This effect helps to improve firmness of the skin and reduce fine wrinkles and lines. Microdermabrasion can be advised for all skin types in adults.

The face may turn slightly red for a few hours after the service. Mild redness is not of concern.
Meet the doctor for counseling, review and recommendation in case there is any itching, swelling or oozing
Do not expose to sunlight without sun protection creams. It is best to reduce sun exposure to the minimum possible when the MDA sessions are going on
Do not rub the treated area with a coarse towel. Instead just dab the area to dry it after washing.
Swimming, steam and sauna may be done after 3 days.
Beauty parlor services for the area where MDA is performed must be avoided for 3-4 days after service.
